1951 Bowman #253 Mickey Mantle Rookie

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,920

Graded PR 1 by PSA. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Bowman rookie card is the key to the 1951 Bowman set and one of the most popular of all postwar baseball cards. Presented is a modestly graded example that is still very presentable and desirable despite its condition flaws, which include vertical creasing to the right of Mantle's face (extending from the top to the bottom) and a tack hole at the end of the name box in the upper right. The card exhibits bold colors, flawless registration (which can sometimes be a problem with this card), light wear to the corners, and centering to the right. Free of any print lines, which are extremely common to this card. The reverse is entirely bold and clean, with only slight evidence of the aforementioned flaws. This is a relatively affordable example of this classic and significant Mickey Mantle card. Disclosure per section 13 of REA's terms and conditions: This lot has been consigned from the personal collection of an executive or employee of Robert Edward Auctions (or a relative of an executive or employee).  Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,920
