1949 Bowman #84 Roy Campanella Rookie SGC NM 84

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,200

Graded NM 84 by SGC. Exceptionally attractive example of Roy Campanella’s rookie card, which is also one Campy’s most striking and popular cards. 1949 Bowmans have always posed a problem for condition-conscious collectors. In addition to the many normal problems encountered with this issue (excessive toning, general wear from fragile paper stock, soft corners, centering issues, and print lines), collectors also have to deal with the wildly varying degrees of print quality that characterize the set. It is easy to see why 1949 Bowmans are one of the most difficult of all issues to collect in high grade. The offered example has a perfectly crisp image, with flawless registration, four strong corners showing light touches of wear, and virtually perfect centering. This is an outstanding example of one of Campanella’s most classic cards, worthy of any high-grade 1949 Bowman or Hall of Fame rookie-card collection.  Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,200
