1950 Bowman Near-Complete Set (243/252) Plus 13 Variations

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,100

10% Nr/Mt, 32% Ex-Mt, 55% Ex (almost entirely due to centering), and 3% lesser. Presented is an extremely attractive near-complete set of 1950 Bowman baseball, missing only nine cards for completion, with many highlights, including PSA NM 7 examples of Ted Williams and Roy Campanella. Also included are thirteen "No Copyright" variations found within the final seventy-two cards of the set. The 1950 Bowman set is often overlooked by collectors simply because it does not include a Mantle or Mays rookie, but this was a landmark set in its day, being the first postwar baseball issue to feature full-color artwork instead of photographs. We submitted three cards to be graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #1 Parnell RC (Ex-Mt+), 3 DiMaggio (Ex+), 8 Kell (Ex-Mt), 22 Robinson (VG-EX+ 4.5), 23 Newcombe RC (Ex+), 32 Roberts (Ex-Mt), 33 Kiner (Ex), 35 Slaughter (Ex), 37 Appling (Ex-Mt+), 39 Doby (Ex), 40 Lemon (Ex-Mt+), 43 Doerr (Ex), 58 Furillo (Ex-Mt), 62 Kluszewski (Ex-Mt), 71 Schoendienst (Ex), 75 Campanella (NM 7), 94 Boudreau (Ex), 98 Williams (NM 7), 112 Hodges (Vg-Ex), 139 Mize (Ex-Mt+), 148 Wynn (Vg-Ex), 217 Stengel (Ex+), 219 Bauer (Ex), and 229 Frisch (slight trim, otherwise Ex). Missing the following nine cards for completion: #6 Feller, 11 Rizzuto, 19 Spahn, 21 Reese, 46 Berra, 59 Branca, 77 Snider, 84 Ashburn, and 220 Durocher. We rarely have the opportunity to offer a complete set of 1950 Bowman and over the years have consistently found it to be among the most elusive sets of the era. This is a very attractive mid- to high-grade near-complete set of this classic early Bowman issue. The SMR value in the assigned grades for just the PSA 7 NM Williams and Campanella cards is $1,015. Total: 256 cards (near-complete set of 243 plus 13 variations).  Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000++. SOLD FOR $5,100
