1953 Canadian Exhibits Partial Set (41/64)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $600
Partial set of 1953 Canadian Exhibits consisting of forty-one different out of sixty-four cards and highlighted by seven Hall of Famers, including Ted Williams, Roy Campanella, and Tom Lasorda (rookie card). The 1953 Canadian Exhibits feature both Major Leaguers and players from the Montreal Royals (the Dodgers' minor-league team) of the International League. The cards measure (3-1/4 x 5-1/4 inches), slightly smaller than the standard U.S. Exhibit cards, and have a card number in the corner. The cards are blank-backed. Two cards feature a slightly rarer green background (#5 and 22). Overall condition of the partial set is 40% Vg to Vg-Ex and 60% lesser, many of which present as Vg-Ex on front, but are downgraded due to pencil or pen on the reverse. Some cards show small slivers of another card along one edge or are cut in a way that the copyright line is only partially visible. Both of these production issues are particularly common with this set, and we have seen grading companies both acknowledge and ignore it when determining a card's grade. In the preceding condition composite, we have not factored this into the grades. Keys: #6 Irvin (Vg/Vg-Ex), 20 Campanella (Ex), 22 Kiner (Pr, green), 30 Williams (Gd due to pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex), 31 Lemon (Ex), 50 Lasorda RC (Ex), and 61 Alston (ink stamp on reverse, otherwise Ex). A very consistent grouping of these scarce and unusual Exhibit Supply Company cards from the 1950s. Total: 41 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $600
