1947-1966 Exhibits Near-Complete Set (322/336) Including 132 PSA- and SGC-Graded Cards

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,300

Extraordinary collection of 322 different (of the 336 in set as checklisted in the Standard Catalog) plus eleven variations and nineteen duplicates (for a total of 352 cards!) from the 1947-1966 Exhibit Supply Company set, highlighted by many rarities and Hall of Famers. A total of 132 cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA or SGC. These unnumbered cards are not dated and were issued over a series of years, so they are generally collected as a single set. Some subjects in this Exhibit card series were issued for numerous years, while other players were issued for only a short period of time, thus creating many rarities. The rarities in this set make the assembly of a complete set one of the most difficult of all Exhibit card sets. While not quite complete, this is an extremely advanced collection, missing just the following fourteen cards for completion: Adcock/black, Ashburn/Cubs, Yogi Berra, Burdette/front, Chance, Killebrew/portrait, Kranepool, Malzone, Mantle/portrait, Pearson, Richardson, Sievers/light background, Skowron, and Ward.

A near-complete set such as this is very rarely seen. In fact, this is only the third time we have ever offered a near-set of 1947-1966 Exhibits, and we have seen fewer than ten complete sets or near-complete sets of this size ever offered at public auction. With a little effort, the winner of this near-complete set can add the fourteen missing cards and make it a beautiful complete set, one of the very few in existence. The cards in this collection are extremely bright, fresh, and attractive. From a very old-time collection, this set was assembled over a period of many years by a very diligent and passionate collector.

While the cards in this collection span a variety of grades, ranging from Poor to Mint, it is an extremely attractive near-complete set, averaging Ex to Ex-Mt throughout. In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers assigned in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards. This is a very attractive, overall high-grade, and very rarely seen near-complete set of this classic issue. 1947-1966 Exhibits are somewhat overlooked by collectors. This is one of the best and most complete collections ever assembled of one of the most important and longest-running series of cards to ever be produced. Total: 352 cards (near-complete set of 322 plus eleven variations and nineteen duplicates) plus cello pack and coin.  Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++. SOLD FOR $3,300
