1934-1936 R327 Diamond Stars Near-Complete Set (96/108)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,400
Near-complete set of R327 Diamond Stars, one of the 1930s' most popular issues, consisting of ninety-six different (#1-96 complete) of the 108 cards in the set. Missing only the twelve rare high-numbers (#97-108) for completion. The Diamond Stars set is highlighted by thirty-two different Hall of Famers! The twelve rare high-number series cards (none of which are included here) have always made this issue difficult to complete, but all twelve of the high-number players (with the very same front designs) appear among the lower-number cards and therefore all players in the set are represented in this #1-96 collection. Condition of the near-complete set is 39% Vg (including a few Vg-Ex) and 61% lesser. We have selected four cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: #1 Grove (VG 3), 2 Simmons (Gd), 3 Maranville (Gd), 9 Cochrane (VG+ 3.5), 11 Dickey (Fr), 14 Terry (Vg), 16 Waner (Vg), 17 Frisch (Pr), 18 Hafey (Vg-Ex), 27 Traynor (Pr), 28 Lopez (Pr), 30 Manush (Vg), 31 Cuyler (Vg), 32 Rice (Vg+), 35 Averill (Pr), 36 Lombardi (Pr), 39 Hubbell (Gd), 43 Lyons (Pr), 44 Hornsby (Gd/Vg), 48 Ferrell (Fr), 50 Ott (Pr), 54 Greenberg (Gd), 59 Bottomley (Gd/Vg), 60 Ruffing (Fr), 63 Jackson (Vg), 64 Foxx (Fr), 66 Medwick (Fr), 74 Lazzeri (VG 3), 77 Gehringer (Fr), 83 Waner (Fr), 91 Harris (Pr), and 95 Appling (VG-EX 4). This is an ideal collection for the collector who wants authentic, original 1930s gum cards, but isn't interested in spending the fortune it would cost to collect this set complete with the rare high-number cards and in higher grade. Total: 96 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,400
