1927 E210 York Caramels Babe Ruth
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,100
Graded EX 60 by SGC (submitted by REA). Rare candy card of Babe Ruth from one of the few issues dating from the late 1920s. The card has perfect clarity, light wear at the corners, and no creases. The reverse is clean with bold black text. It is interesting to note that Ruth is actually pictured in a Boston Red Sox uniform on this card. The York Caramel Company issued this unusual set in 1927. The set is identical in design to Tharp's Ice Cream, Sweetman, and W502, but with advertising for the "York Caramel Co." of York, Pennsylvania, on the reverse. Collectors have always appreciated the rarity and primitive charm of this distinctive candy issue. York Caramels appear to have been regionally issued, as they are rarely found outside of the Pennsylvania area. This is a tremendous example of this rare issue (which has all the more significance as it dates from the legendary year of 1927) that would be a highlight in even the most advanced Babe Ruth card collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $5,100
