Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,040

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very attractive high-grade Kalamazoo Bats tobacco card of Philadelphia Athletics pitcher "Smiling" Al Maul. Extremely clean card with outstanding photo contrast. The card's very interesting photo includes an unidentified player standing in the outfield. Flawless surface, free of any creases or wrinkles, with light rounding at the four corners. Clean blank reverse. Kalamazoo Bats are noted for both their great rarity and unique design. This is a very attractive example from this important nineteenth-century tobacco issue.  Reserve $500.
