1911 T212 Obak Cigarettes Near-Complete Set (150/175)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,800

Presented is an extremely attractive near-complete set of 1911 T212 Obak Cigarettes cards consisting of 150 different out of 175 in a complete set. Obaks are among the most popular of all early card issues featuring players from the Pacific Coast League. While catalogued simply as T212, Obaks were actually issued over a period of three years, from 1909 to 1911, and are really three sets. The 1910 and 1911 Obak sets, in addition to featuring players from the six PCL teams, also feature players from the four-team Northwestern League. The 1911 set cards are easily distinguished by the red printing on their backs. Condition of this near-complete set is 52% Vg to Vg-Ex, 35% Fr to Gd (mostly due to small pencil marks on the reverse or hard-to-see creases), and 13% hand-cut (presenting as Vg or better overall). Approximately 25% of the cards in this near-complete set have purple factory stamps on the reverse (and have not been downgraded as a result, as this is how these cards were issued). Missing the following twenty-five cards for completion: R. Brashear, Cartwright, Delhi, Hetling, Householder, Howard, Knight, Koestner, Kuhn, Lewis, Meikle, Metzger, Million, Murray, O'Rourke, Peckinpaugh, Pernoll, Scharnweber, Sheehan (Portland), Sheehan (Seattle), Stinson, Swain, Tideman, Weaver, and Zacher. This is an extremely attractive grouping, which (as can easily be seen) presents far better than suggested by the technically accurate assigned grades. This collection potentially represents a rare and outstanding opportunity to acquire a very attractive near-complete set of these early classics at a relatively affordable price level. Total: 150 cards.  Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $4,800
