1916 D303 General Baking Chief Bender Green Background - Highest Graded!
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $480
Graded VG 40 by SGC (submitted by REA). Highest-graded example of Hall of Famer Chief Bender (green background) from the D303 General Baking issue featuring Bender as a member of the Baltimore Terrapins of the Federal League. Issued in 1916 by the General Baking Company, this series shares designs with several closely related caramel issues (E90-1 American Caramel Company, E106 American Caramel, T216 Kotton, etc.) from the same era. All General Baking cards are rare, but an example of a Hall of Famer is especially noteworthy and desirable. The offered example, which pictures Bender sitting in profile and set against a deep, green background, boasts a crisp image, even wear to the corners, and centering very slightly to the right. Downgraded due to staining along the top border and unobtrusive chipping along the bottom edge. Light toning is visible on the reverse along with a flawless advertisement for General Baking and its products. Free of any creases or wrinkles, both front and back. This is an attractive example of Chief Bender from this rare prewar food issue. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $480
