1910 T209 Contentnea First Series Complete SGC-Graded Set (16)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,300
Extremely rare complete sixteen-card set (plus one duplicate) of 1910 T209 Contentnea First Series cards, entirely graded by SGC. This is an incredibly attractive complete set of these extremely striking 1910-era tobacco cards featuring players from the Virginia League, Carolina Association, and Eastern League. As can easily be seen, the condition is better than suggested by the modest assigned grades. SGC Condition Composite: One VG+ 45: Fullenwider. One VG 40: Lane. Four GOOD 30: Hoffman, Martin, Sisson, and Walsh. Seven FAIR 20: Booles, Cowell, Crockett, Gilmore, McGeehan, Pope, and Stubbe. Three POOR 10: Armstrong, Bourquise, and Cooper. Also included is one duplicate, Sisson, graded FAIR 20. Two of the cards have the factory rubber stamp ("Factory No. 12, 4th Dist. N.C.") on the reverse. This stamp is natural to the set; it is how they were made and distributed by Contentnea Tobacco. Every card is bright and crisp, with vibrant colors, and flawless registration. Minor creases or flaws on the reverse are responsible for the technically accurate assigned grades despite superior appearances. T209 Contentnea First Series cards are rarely offered as a complete set, and are highly prized by both minor-league collectors and tobacco-card collectors. This is a gorgeous set! Total: 17 cards (complete set of 16 cards plus one duplicate). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $3,300
