1912 T207 Brown Background SGC-Graded Collection (8) Including Three Hall of Famers - All with Rare Napoleon Backs!

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $2,160

Collection of eight T207s with Napoleon Little Cigars backs, including Hall of Famers John McGraw, Bill McKechnie, and Bobby Wallace. T207s with advertising for Napoleon Little Cigars are the unsung rare-back heroes of the T207 set. They are incredibly rare, but their rarity has somehow never fully gotten the respect it deserves. The reason for this, we believe, is simply that the players featured on "Napoleon Little Cigars" T207s are for the most part not very rare cards in the set; in fact, many (but not all) are among the most common players in the set (and all are normally found with Recruit Little Cigars advertising backs, by far the most common of all T207 ad backs). The other four T207 ad backs (Cycle, Broad Leaf, the "no advertising company" cards that are believed to have been issued by Coupon, and the prohibitively rare Red Cross back cards) are all celebrated for their rarity, and the subjects featured with these rare backs are also all legitimately rare in the T207 set. In fact, the rarest subjects in the T207 set were only issued on the cards with these rare backs (and were not issued with the common Recruit backs). But T207 Napoleon Little Cigar advertising backs are rare as an advertising back type, in fact far rarer than T207 Cycle, Broad Leaf, or "no advertising company" back cards. We hope we have explained this clearly! The eight "Napoleon Little Cigars" cards offered here were part of a much larger T207 collection, consisting of hundreds of cards. They were the only Napoleon backs in the entire collection (for reference, more than eighty Broadleaf and Cycle cards were included). This collection consists of the following (each graded and encapsulated by SGC): Ellis (VG/EX 50), Ferry (EX 60), Hall (VG 40), D. Lewis (FAIR 20), McGraw (HOF, VG/EX 50), McKechnie (HOF, VG 40), Wallace (HOF, VG 40), and Zeider (VG 40). This is a particularly attractive collection, with bold, clean reverses and no creases (except for Lewis). This is the largest group of Napoleon backs we have ever seen or offered! Total: 8 cards.  Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,160
