1909-1911 T206 White Border Frank Smith Chicago & Boston - Extremely Rare Brown Lenox Back!
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,100
Offered is one of the "holy grails" of T206 advertising-back collecting: An extremely rare Brown Lenox reverse. Ranked by T206Resource.com as the third most difficult back (out of thirty-nine different advertising backs), the Brown Lenox ranks behind only the Brown Old Mill (available only on Southern Leaguers and only a handful of which have been confirmed) and the Ty Cobb Tobacco (available only on Cobb/red portrait, approximately thirteen of which are known to exist). The offered example of Frank Smith (Chicago & Boston) is graded POOR 10 by SGC due to various condition flaws, including heavy creasing and tiny areas of surface wear on the front. The image is bright and well centered, and ideally, the reverse is boldly printed with an unquestionably brown color. Approximately a dozen Brown Lenox examples have been graded by SGC and PSA combined, with an unknown number of examples not distinguished as brown in their population reports. Regardless of what the population reports say, the Brown Lenox cards are supreme rarities. Despite its modest assigned grade, this is an extremely desirable example of this tremendous advertising-back key rarity and one that would make an outstanding addition to any T206 back collection. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $5,100
