1911 T9 Turkey Red Boxing Cabinet-Card Collection (8) Including Two SGC-Graded James Jeffries
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,080
Collection of eight cards (six different) from the classic T9 Turkey Red boxing series, highlighted by two SGC-graded examples of James Jeffries (both submitted by REA). These cards were part of a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in several lots on the Internet Only section). Issued in conjunction with the T3 Turkey Red baseball series, the T9 boxing set features twenty-six champion boxers of the day, and is widely considered the most attractive and most desirable of all boxing issues. All the cabinets have checklists backs. This group consists of the following: #51 Jem Driscoll (Gd+), 53 Ad Wolgast (Vg-Ex), two 55 James Jeffries (EX+ 70 and EX 60), two 63 Harry Lewis (Vg+ and Gd), 65 Sam Langford (Gd/Vg), and 66 Knock-Out Brown (Fr; presents as Vg-Ex from the front, but downgraded due to small spots of paper loss on the reverse). Very strong-looking group of these condition-sensitive large cards, with two very high-grade examples of James Jeffries, one of the key cards to the T9 set. Total: 8 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,080
