1909-1911 T206 White Border Frank Bowerman Blank Back with Interesting Printing Anomaly!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,700

Fascinating blank-back printer's scrap of Frank Bowerman from the 1909-1911 T206 White Border set. This card has a brown-color pass on the otherwise blank back, creating an extremely unusual and fascinating visual effect, with Bowerman's hair, partial color, and entire nameplate (player and team name) visible. This card is very likely unique, but we have seen several other T206 scrap examples over the years exhibiting the same characteristics (a group of four appeared as Lot #290 in REA's Spring 2013 auction, realizing $10,665). Collectors today greatly appreciate all rare and unique T206 oddities, and consider cards with just one of these characteristics (blank back or additional reverse printing) extremely unusual. Examples such as this that combine two interesting printing anomalies are rarely seen. T206 printer's scraps are encapsulated by the major grading companies as "Authentic" (due to being hand-cut), and the offered card has been encapsulated as such by SGC despite an overall Vg apperance, with even rounding to the corners and a light crease in the upper right. The T206 set, affectionately known as "The Monster," is the most popular of all 1910-era sets and is still yielding new and exciting discoveries more than a century after its production. As collectors have become more sophisticated, there has been a growing appreciation for all great rarities and unusual cards associated with this landmark set. This is an extremely noteworthy T206 printing error that would be highly prized by collectors of the legendary T206 set.  Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,700
