1888 to 1934 Tobacco- and Gum-Card Collection (95) Including T205, T206, and N162 Kelly

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,560

Presented is a fascinating (and somewhat eclectic!) collection of ninety-five cards spanning the years 1888 to 1934 from nine classic tobacco- and gum-card issues, highlighted by eight Hall of Famers, including King Kelly. This collection, which is entirely new to the modern collecting world (we don't know the precise history but have reason to believe these cards are part of a very old-time collection) and is being offered exactly how it was presented to us, features baseball, boxing, and nonsport cards. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1888 N28 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" (2 cards): Acton (boxing; skinned) and Hamm (rowing). Both grade Pr. 2) 1888 N162 Goodwin Champions (3 cards): Acton (wrestling), Fitzgerald (pedestrian), and Kelly (HOF). All grade Pr. 3) 1889 N29 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" (2 cards): Murphy (boxing) and Myers (runner; skinned). Both grade Pr. 4) 1909-1911 T206 White Border (21 cards): Nineteen different. All Piedmont backs, except for one Sovereign 460 and one Polar Bear (both Duffy). Grades Gd to Vg overall, with four lesser. Keys: Davis (HOF, Gd) and three Duffy (HOF, one Gd and two Pr). 5) 1910 E50 Dockman "Wild West Gum" (14 cards): Ten different. Grades Vg overall, with two lesser. 6) 1910 E75 American Caramel Prize Fighters (13 cards): All different. Grades Pr overall. 7) 1910 E76 American Caramel Prize Fighters (26 cards): Partial set of fourteen different out of twenty. Grades Pr overall. 8) 1911 T205 Gold Border (10 cards): All different. Five Piedmont and five Polar Bear backs. Grades Gd to Vg overall, with two lesser. Keys: Chance (HOF, Gd), Evers (HOF, Pr), and Tinker (HOF, Pr). 9) 1911 T3 Turkey Red (1 card): #22 Krause (Vg+). 10) 1934 R304 Al Demaree Die-Cut (3 cards): #5 Byrd, 20 Kress, and 122 Watkins. Grades Vg-Ex to Ex overall. While the condition of this collection spans several grades and is relatively modest overall, it is an outstanding assembly for the collector who wants real, authentic cards from some of the most classic prewar sets but is not interested in spending the fortune that it would require to purchase them in higher grade. Total: 95 cards.   Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,560
