1911 T205 Gold Border Patrick Moran (No Stray Line) - Extremely Rare Drum Back!
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,560
Graded VG 40 by SGC (submitted by REA). Extremely attractive and rare example of Philadelphia Phillies catcher Patrick Moran (no stray line) from the T205 Gold Border set featuring a Drum advertising reverse. This card is part of an exciting find of eight Drums discovered recently as part of a large tobacco-card collection passed down through the same family for more than one hundred years. Seven of the eight Drum backs are offered in this auction (the eighth, a duplicate, is being kept by our consignor). Only Hindu can compete with Drum in terms of rarity among T205 advertising backs. Prior to this find, we have only ever offered two other T205 Drum backs! The offered card is bright and crisp, both front and back, with bold colors, even wear at the corners, and a one-inch vertical crease extending from the bottom border. The reverse is perfectly clean, which is ideal for a rare T205 advertising-back example. To date, this is the ONLY example of Moran with a Drum back ever graded by SGC. This is a very attractive extreme rare-back example from one of the premier tobacco-card sets of the era. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,560
