1911 T205 Gold Border Richard Hoblitzell (Cin. After 2nd 1908 in Stats) - Extremely Rare Drum Back!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $960

Graded FAIR 20 by SGC (submitted by REA). Extremely rare example of Cincinnati Reds first baseman Richard Hoblitzell (Cin. After 2nd 1908 in Stats) from the T205 Gold Border set featuring a Drum advertising reverse. This card is part of an exciting find of eight Drums discovered recently as part of a large tobacco-card collection passed down through the same family for more than one hundred years. Seven of the eight Drum backs are offered in this auction (the eighth, a duplicate, is being kept by our consignor). Only Hindu can compete with Drum in terms of rarity among T205 advertising backs. Prior to this find, we have only ever offered two other T205 Drum backs! The offered card features bold colors, even wear at the corners, and moderate creasing, which is responsible for the assigned grade. The reverse is perfectly clean, which is ideal for a rare T205 advertising-back example. To date, this is one of only two examples of Hoblitzell with a Drum back ever graded by SGC. This is a superb extreme rare-back example from one of the premier tobacco-card sets of the era.  Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $960
