1911 T3 Turkey Red #9 Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $6,000

Graded VG+ 45 by SGC (submitted by REA). Presented is one of vintage-card collecting's most recognizable icons and the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet-card series: #9 Ty Cobb. Besides being the most valuable card in the set, it is also one of the most desirable and striking of all Ty Cobb cards. The offered card is one of the highlights of a completely untouched collection of tobacco cards consigned to this auction. This example is bright and crisp, very clean, both front and back, with bold colors, no creases in the image area (there is a small surface crease visible in the right and bottom borders), some light corner wear, and outstanding centering. The checklist back is extremely clean with the only flaw being a small chip of surface paper loss (of little or no consequence) in the top left corner. This is a very attractive example of card #9 Ty Cobb, in an extremely desirable midgrade. The classic Turkey Red set is considered by many to be the most beautiful and well-made tobacco set ever issued. The T3 Ty Cobb has always and will always be in high demand, especially a relatively affordable midgrade example such as this that presents so much better than its technical grade.  Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $6,000
