Multisigned 1938 "World Series Victory Dinner" Menu with 11 Hall of Famers Including Gehrig, Combs, Gomez, Ruffing, and DiMaggio

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,700

One-page menu issued for a special dinner held in honor of the New York Yankees' 1938 World Series victory over the Chicago Cubs, signed by thirty-two individuals, including Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Earle Combs, Lefty Gomez, and heavyweight boxing champion James Braddock. The typewritten menu, which is dated October 9, 1938 (the date of the final game of the World Series in New York), is titled "World Series - Victory Dinner," and provides a complete listing of the many courses being served that night. Six autographs appear on the front, while the remainder are located on the blank-back reverse. All of the signatures, most of which are those of Yankees players, have been rendered in black fountain pen. Gehrig's signature is very cleanly scripted in the lower right corner on the reverse (oriented upside down compared to the other signatures) and grades "8." The other Hall of Fame signatures represented here (all on the reverse) are those of Ed Barrow, Earle Combs, Joe Cronin, Joe DiMaggio, Lefty Gomez, Joe Gordon, William Harridge, Joe McCarthy, Red Ruffing, and Tom Yawkey. Included among the remaining signatures are those of James Braddock, Myril Hoag, Tommy Henrich, Bump Hadley, Red Rolfe, Johnny Murphy, George Selkirk, Monte Pearson, Joe Glenn, Steve Sundra, Paul Schreiber (Yankees coach), and Al Schacht. The few additional signatures are those of sportswriters, players' wives, etc. The signatures are all fairly uniform in grade, averaging "7/8." The menu (6.5 x 8.5 inches) displays a heavy vertical fold through the center, which naturally affects parts of some signatures, including Braddock, Cronin, Harridge, and Ruffing. In addition to the aforementioned fold, the menu displays a few small areas of toning and some light creases. In Very Good condition overall. A superb signed piece from an extraordinary celebratory event with many notable signatures, including legendary New York Yankees Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.  Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+. SOLD FOR $2,700
