1967 Leaf Star Trek Near-Complete Set (65/72)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,280
Presented is a near-complete set of 1967 Leaf "Star Trek," consisting of sixty-five cards (out of seventy-two in the set). Eleven cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA. Missing only the following seven cards for completion: #5, 20, 21, 48, 52, 68, and 70. Leaf made one of the worst business moves in its history by going ahead with the production of its 1967 "Star Trek" set. The entire first print run was wrapped, boxed, and cased before Leaf discovered that they were not going to receive the proper licensing approvals to release the set. They had no alternative other than to destroy the entire inventory. As all collectors are aware, some cases were distributed, although only a few. This is widely recognized to be one of the rarest and most desirable of all 1960s card sets. As the first of the many "Star Trek" card sets to come, it is now considered a classic. This is a remarkably attractive near-complete set, grading Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt overall, with three Nr/Mt-Mt and twelve Ex. The graded cards are as follows: Three NM-MT 8: #30, 64, and 65. Four NM 7: #19, 29, 69, and 72. One EX-MT+ 6.5: #46. Three EX-MT 6: #7, 22, and 36. One of the most popular of all 1960s nonsport issues. Star Trek is one of the few television shows of the 1960s to survive with its popularity intact (and, if anything, even greater) to this day. (Note: this set has been reprinted; these are 1967 originals.) Total: 65 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $2,280
