Pair of 1950s Topps Nonsport Display Boxes: "Davy Crockett" and "Zorro"
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $840
Presented is an extremely attractive pair of original wax-pack display boxes from two of the 1950s' most popular nonsport-card sets: "Davy Crockett" and "Zorro." Each box was originally intended to house twenty-four nickel packs of these trading cards. Designed with bright, bold colors to capture the attention of youths looking for trading cards of familiar television heroes, each box features a full-size image of the set's namesake on the top panel alongside the set name in large letters. The side panels display additional imagery related to the set, with a Bazooka Bubble Gum advertisement on the back side panel. The "Davy Crockett" box has been extremely well preserved, with brilliant colors, light shelf wear visible at the corners and along the edges, and only a light crease passing through the Bazooka advertisement panel. Overall Very Good to Excellent. The "Zorro" box is encapsulated as NM 7 by GAI. It displays bold colors and light shelf wear, though we grade it slightly more conservatively than GAI due to light creasing on the Bazooka advertisement panel. Overall Very Good to Excellent. Each box is an ideal candidate to accompany any complete set of these issues, and the pair would be worthy additions to any nonsport or display-box collection. Total: 2 boxes. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $840
