1930s and 1940s Nonsport Gum-Card Original-Owner Collection (364) Including G-Men and Horrors of War
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $960
Presented is a sizable collection of 364 cards, spanning the years 1933 to 1951, from eight different classic nonsport sets. Some of nonsport-card collecting's most popular sets are represented, including "Horrors of War," "G-Men & Heroes of the Law," and "Uncle Sam/Home Defense." Incredibly, this collection has been consigned to the auction directly by the original owner, who acquired most of these cards in their year of issue! Many of the cards in the offered collection still display bold colors but have obviously been handled throughout the years. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1933-1934 R136 National Chicle "Sky Birds" (8 cards), 2) 1935 R41 Dick Tracy Caramels (68 cards), 3) 1935 R147 Schutter-Johnson "Tarzan and the Crystal Vault of Isis" (3 cards), 4) 1936 R60 Gum, Inc. "G-Men & Heroes of the Law" (97 cards), 5) 1938 R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War" (83 cards), 6) 1941 R157 Gum, Inc. "Uncle Sam" (95 cards), 7) 1941 V275 O-Pee-Chee "Empire Defenders" (5 cards), and 8) 1951 Bowman "Red Menace" (5 cards). The condition overall is extremely modest, averaging Fair to Good, with many cards presenting heavy creases or wrinkles. This is an ideal lot for the collector who wants real, original golden-age nonsport cards which capture the spirit of collecting, but does not want to spend a fortune on a substantial group of cards representing some of the most classic and widely collected sets of the 1930s and 1940s. Total: 364 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $960
