Gigantic 1910-Era Silks, Leathers, and Felts Collection (3,255)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,080
Presented is an extraordinarily large collection of 1910-era silks, leathers, and felts consisting of approximately 3,255 pieces from over twenty different tobacco premium issues, depicting a wide variety of subjects ranging from actresses to flags to colleges. It is extremely rare to find a collection of these types of 1910-era tobacco premiums numbering into the thousands and offered as a single lot! Truly a collection unto itself, this incredible collection includes samples and groups from some of the most popular nonsport silks, leathers, and felt tobacco premium sets. This tremendous lot is part of an extremely large nonsport-card collection consigned to this auction, with more than two dozen sets offered individually and the balance offered in a series of group lots and collections. While the condition of the items in this collection spans several grades, it is an extremely pleasing group overall in relatively consistent condition. A partial inventory is included below. Additional pictures or information is available upon request. This collection includes the following: 1) S2 Domestic Animals (12). 2) S3 Animals (12). 3) S4 Breeds of Dog (27). 4) S6 Birds (217). 5) S7 Birds in Flight (46). 6) S9 Butterflies (388). 7) S14 National Arms (346). 8) S17 Military and Lodge Medals (125). 9) S25 College Seals (67). 10-13) S33, S35, S36, and S38 National Flags and Arms (1207 between these four sets). 14) S39 Flags and Arms (45). 15) S48 Flowers (5). 16) S56 Bathing Girls (3). 17) S61 Feminine Types (4). 18) S75 Famous Queens (72). 19) S89 State Flowers (7). 20) S90 City Seals (6). 21) S101 Comic Children (5). 22) B34 Soldiers (23). Also included are approximately 509 small leather inserts, predominantly from the L20 and L50 College series, as well as forty-seven cigarette premium envelopes, used to hold these inserts. Almost all of the silks have retained their original bold colors and crisp images. This group varies in condition with many of the common flaws associated with silks present (fold lines and fraying, most frequently). This is a tremendous assembly of silks, leathers, and felts which could represent a foundation collection of these tobacco premium sets or would be a substantial addition to any 1910-era nonsport tobacco-card collection. Total: approximately 3,255 silks, leathers, and felts. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,080
