1888 N31 Allen & Ginter "World's Dudes" Partial Set (35/50)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $360

Presented is a partial set of 1888 N31 Allen & Ginter "World's Dudes" consisting of thirty-five different cards out of fifty in a complete set. This is an attractive collection of these scarce and colorful tobacco cards. Condition ranges from Vg to Ex (averaging Vg-Ex) when viewed from the front; however, approximately two-thirds of the cards have an ink stamp, tiny pencil notations, or light album residue on the reverse, which would cause them to grade more modestly. Issued with Allen & Ginter Cigarettes, the cards feature beautiful colorful lithographs of well-to-do gentlemen, from different areas of the world, engaged in various activities. . . . dressed in silly outfits. These cards were obviously making fun of the well-to-do of the day! The back of each card features the checklist for the set. This is an attractive partial set, with fascinating subject matter, and with outstanding eye-appeal. Allen & Ginter's "World's Dudes" are highly prized by nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors. Total: 35 cards.  Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $360
