1888 N33 Allen & Ginter "World's Smokers" Near-Complete Set (45/50)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $420

Near-complete set of N33 Allen & Ginter “World's Smokers” consisting of forty-five different cards out of fifty in a complete set. This is a very attractive near-complete set of these very colorful tobacco cards, with the cards grading Vg to Vg-Ex overall, with three lesser; however, twelve cards have flaws on the reverse, such as ink, tiny areas of paper loss, or glue residue, which would cause them to grade more modestly. Issued with Allen & Ginter's Cigarettes, each card features a beautifully rendered multicolor illustration of a male or female enjoying his or her favorite smoke, dressed in native costume from one of the fifty different regions of the world represented in the set. The checklist is on the back of the cards. Allen & Ginter's "World's Smokers" are rarely offered as a complete or near-complete set, and are highly prized by smoking paraphernalia collectors and nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors. Total: 45 cards.  Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $420
