Gigantic Circa 1910 Nonsport Tobacco-Card Collection (10,732 cards)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $12,000

Presented is an extremely substantial collection of 10,732 tobacco cards from fifty-three different 1910-era tobacco-card sets. (This is not a misprint! Ten thousand-seven hundred-and thirty-two cards!) Truly a collection unto itself, this incredible assembly of tobacco cards includes samples, groups, near-complete, and complete sets from some of the early twentieth-century's most popular nonsport-card sets. This tremendous lot is part of an extremely large nonsport-card collection consigned to this auction, with more than two dozen sets offered individually and the balance offered in a series of group lots and collections. While the condition of the cards in this collection spans several grades, it is an extremely pleasing group overall in relatively consistent condition, averaging Very Good overall (cards range from Pr to Ex). Many cards present well when viewed from the front but would technically grade lesser due to small flaws on the reverse, such as pencil notations, album residue, or paper loss, all extremely common flaws when dealing with early tobacco cards.

This collection consists of the following:
1) T25 Actors (147 cards); 2) T27 Actresses (194 cards); 3) T28 Aeroplane Series (37 cards): Includes a complete set of ten cards.; 4) T29 Animals (723 cards): 389 cards have descriptive backs and 334 cards have non-descriptive backs.; 5) T30 Arctic Scenes (95 cards); 6) T31 Art Gallery Pictures (50 cards); 7) T33 Art Reproductions (8 cards); 8) T35 Ask Dad (2 cards); 9) T36 Auto Drivers (2 cards); 10) T37 Automobile Series (37 cards); 11) T38 The Aviators (63 cards): Includes a complete set of twenty-five cards.; 12) T40 Battleships and Signal Flags (1 card); 13) T41 Battleships (7 cards); 14) T42 Bird Series (968 cards): 474 with white borders and 494 with gold borders.; 14) T43 Bird Series (51 cards); 15) T46 British Buildings (317 packs with one card inside each pack, plus 78 singles, total 395 items); 16) T47 British Sovereigns (410 cards); 17) T48 Butterfly Series (183 cards); 18) T51 College Series (290 cards); 19) T52 Costumes and Scenery (206 cards): 123 cards with Helmar backs and 83 cards with Turkish backs.; 20) T53 Cowboy Series (161 cards); 21) T56 Emblem Series (27 cards); 22) T57 Fable Series (103 cards); 23) T58 Fish Series (376 cards): 209 cards have Piedmont backs, 152 Sweet Caporal, and fifteen Sovereign.; 24) T59 Flags of All Nations (1,545 cards); 25) T61 Foreign Stamps Series A (57 cards); 26) T62 Fortune Series (220 cards); 27) T68 Heroes & Men of History (40 cards): Thirty-one cards are from the Heroes series and nine are from the Men series.; 28) T69 Historic Homes (219 cards); 29) T70 Historical Events Series (4 cards); 30) T72 Hudson Fulton Series (9 cards); 31) T73 Indian Life in the 60s (285 cards): Includes five error cards.; 32) T74 Indian Series (1 card); 33) T77 Lighthouse Series (139 cards); 34) T78 Little Henry Series (245 cards); 35) T79 Military Series (115 cards); 36) T80 Military Series (5 cards); 37) T81 Military Series (35 cards, 130 die-cuts, total 165); 38) T82 Series of Movie Stars (20 cards); 39) T88 Mutt & Jeff Series (6 cards); 40) T89 National Types (72 cards); 41) T94 Post Card Series (19 cards); 42) T95 Presidents (5 cards); 43) T96 Prize Dog Series (26 cards): Includes a complete set of ten cards.; 44) T98 Rulers of the World (41 cards); 45) T99 Sight and Scenes of the World (173 cards); 46) T100 Silhouettes (2 cards); 47) T105 Standard Bearers (192 cards); 48) T106 State Girls Series (3 cards); 49) T107 Seals of the United States and Coats of Arms of All Countries of the World (1,117 cards); 50) T112 Toast Series (1,155 cards); 51) T113 Types of Nations (219 cards); 52) T114 Comics (41 cards); 53) T121 World War 1 Scenes (56 cards).
