1888 N240 Kinney Bros. "Types of Nationalities" Near-Complete Set (21/25)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $360

Near-complete set of 1888 N240 Kinney Bros. "Types of Nationalities" consisting of twenty-one cards out of twenty-five in a complete set. Missing Italian, Moorish, Russian, and Zulu for completion. A very attractive near-complete set of these rare, colorful, and very striking nineteenth-century tobacco cards. These cards (approximately 1.5 x 2.75 inches) are very elaborately designed in a style similar to that of matchbooks. The front of each card depicts a cultural figure representative of the nation featured on the card (such as a mummy for Egypt), and the bottom flap of the card folds down (extending the card to total dimensions of 6.75 x 1.5 inches) to reveal the figure smoking Sweet Caporal Cigarettes. When extended, the other side reveals a complete checklist for the set. This set is very consistent in appearance, grading Vg to Vg-Ex, with two lesser due to small spots of paper loss. This is a beautiful and rarely offered near-complete set of this colorful and fascinating issue. Total: 21 cards.  Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $360
