1889 N225 Kinney Bros. "National Dances" Complete Set (50) Plus 10 Variations

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $480

Complete set of fifty 1889 N225 Kinney Bros. "National Dances" cards plus ten borderless variations for a total of sixty cards. A very attractive set of these scarce and colorful tobacco cards, bright and clean, in a uniform condition ranging from Vg to Ex (averaging Vg-Ex), with ten lesser. Issued with Kinney's tobacco, each card features a beautifully rendered multicolor illustration of a dancing male or female in native costume from one of the different countries represented. The dances and countries are checklisted on the back of the cards. Cards issued by Kinney Bros. tend to be far rarer than those issued by some of the larger tobacco companies of the era such as Allen & Ginter. The ten borderless variations are Cachucha, Fandango (man), Fandango (woman), Flower Dance, Foulard, Greek Nat. Waltz, Highland Fling, Madrilena, Neapolitan (man), and Neapolitan (woman). This is an extremely attractive, culturally very interesting, and significant set with outstanding eye-appeal. Rarely offered as a complete set. Total: 60 cards (complete set of 50 plus 10 variations).  Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $480
