1890 N129 Duke "Stars of the Stage" (First Series) Near-Complete Set (23/25)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $300

Near-complete set of twenty-three (out of twenty-five) 1890 N129 Duke "Stars of the Stage" (First Series) cards. A very attractive near-complete set of these rare, colorful, and very striking nineteenth-century tobacco cards. Condition ranges from Vg to Ex (averaging Vg-Ex), with eight cards technically grading lesser due to small flaws on the reverse. Duke Tobacco cards in general are far rarer than cards issued by many other tobacco companies such as Allen & Ginter. Issued with Duke’s Honest Long Cut brand tobacco, each card features a colorful, finely detailed lithographic image of an unnamed "beauty" dressed in fancy Victorian attire. Duke's "Stars of the Stage" (First Series) is rarely offered as a complete or near-complete set. Total: 23 cards.  Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $300
