1900 T89 Hoffman House Magnums “National Types” SGC-Graded Near-Complete Set (24/25)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $420

Extremely attractive near-complete set of twenty-four (out of twenty-five) T89 Hoffman House Magnums “National Types,” missing only #11 Ireland for completion. Each card is graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). Issued with Hoffman House Magnums Cigars, a brand of the New York cigar-maker Hilson Company, the set is entitled "National Types.” Each card features a beautiful colorful lithograph of a representative figure relating to a specific country. "Copyright 1900 By The Hilson Co." appears in the lower left of the front of each card; a card number (#1-25) appears in the lower right. The back of each card features the words and music to the national song or hymn of the country represented on the front. In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the American Tobacco Cards Price Guide checklist. SGC Grading Report: One EX+ 70: #23. Twelve EX 60: #3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, 19, and 22. Five VG/EX+ 55: #5, 18, 20, 24, and 25. Two VG/EX 50: #7 and 15. Three VG+ 45: #1, 2, and 21. One GOOD 30: #13. This is an extremely attractive near-complete set, with outstanding eye-appeal, and one of the very few tobacco issues dating from circa 1900, issued right in the middle of the two great eras of tobacco insert cards. An outstanding complete set (minus one) instantly recognizable by tobacco-card collectors as particularly rare, unusual, and very different in design and style to tobacco cards issued a few years later (or earlier). Total: 24 cards.  Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $420
