1889 N186 W. S. Kimball "Dancing Women" SGC-Graded Near-Complete Set (38/50)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $540

Near-complete set of 1889 N186 W. S. Kimball "Dancing Women," consisting of thirty-eight (out of fifty) cards, each graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). A very attractive group of these scarce and colorful tobacco cards, bright and clean, with several condition highlights. Issued with Kimball's Cigarettes, each card features a beautifully rendered multicolor illustration of a dancing woman in native costume from one of fifty different countries represented. The countries are checklisted on the back of the cards. SGC Grading Composite: One NM 84: #16. Two EX/MT+ 82: #10 and 26. Three EX/NM 80: #11, 12, and 23. Five EX+ 70: #34, 38, 42, 46, and 48. Nine EX 60: #5, 8, 9, 15, 28, 27, 39, 40, and 50. Two VG/EX+ 55: #35 and 49. Four VG+ 45: #18, 30, 37, and 44. Eight VG 40: #4, 13, 17, 29, 31, 36, 47, and 48. One GOOD 30: #6. Three FAIR 20: #21, 41, and 45. Cards issued by W. S. Kimball & Co. tend to be far rarer than those issued by some of the larger tobacco companies of the era such as Allen & Ginter. This is a rarely offered and very attractive nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card near-complete set with outstanding eye-appeal. Total: 38 cards.  Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $540
