1888 N36 Allen & Ginter American Indians SGC-Graded Collection (17)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $6,600
Collection of seventeen different high-grade N36 Allen & Ginter large-format American Indians. By any measure, these are among the rarest and most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco-card issues. It is not surprising that these cards have begun to attract serious attention, long overdue, by extremely advanced collectors. All seventeen cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC (except for one PSA). SGC Grading Composite: Two EX/NM 80: Big Chief and Young Black Dog (1 of 1, highest graded). Eight EX 60: Chief Gall, Iron Bull, Mad Bear (PSA EX 5), Red Shirt (highest graded), Spotted Tail, White Shield (highest graded), White Swan, and Young Whirlwhind (1 of 1, highest graded). Five VG/EX 50: Chief Joseph, Crow's Breast, Grey Eagle, John Grass, and Many Horns. One VG 40: Big Razor. One GOOD 30: Big Elk. Issued in 1888, N36s are one of the rarest of all the Allen & Ginter sets. They feature the same subjects and designs as the smaller N2 Allen & Ginters, but in a larger format and with extra background artwork added to each card's design. Measuring approximately 2.75 x 3.25 inches, the large-format N36 Allen & Ginters are widely recognized as one of the most attractive and highly prized card sets ever issued. The set features American Indians of the day. This is an extremely crisp, clean, attractive, and high-grade collection of these rare cards. Total: 17 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
