1889 N24 Allen & Ginter "Types of All Nations" SGC-Graded Near-Complete Set (43/50)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $720

Near-complete set of 1889 N24 Allen & Ginter “Types of All Nations,” consisting of forty-three cards (out of fifty). Each card is graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). This is a very attractive set of these very colorful tobacco cards, and while the condition spans many grades, almost all of the lesser-graded examples have an appearance better than suggested by the technically accurate assigned grades. Issued with Allen & Ginter Cigarettes, each card features a beautifully rendered multicolor illustration of a male or female in native costume from one of fifty different regions of the world represented in the set. The checklist is on the back of the cards. The SGC grades are as follows: Four EX/NM 80: #5, 14, 17, and 30. Four EX+ 70: #2, 16, 26, and 38. Nine EX 60: #4, 9, 18, 21, 22, 24, 43, 44, and 48. Six VG/EX+ 55: #1, 8, 23, 27, 34, and 46. Five VG/EX 50: #7, 20, 25, 36, and 39. Two VG+ 45: #19 and 29. Five VG 40: #10, 12, 33, 37, and 49. Two GOOD+ 35: #13 and 31. One GOOD 30: #3. Four FAIR 20: #6, 11, 28, and 41. One POOR 10: #32. This is an outstanding near-complete set of this highly prized nineteenth-century tobacco-card issue. Total: 43 cards.  Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $720
