1891 N20 Allen & Ginter "Prize and Game Chickens" SGC-Graded Near-Complete Set (39/50)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $480

Near-complete set of 1891 Allen & Ginter "Prize and Game Chickens" cards, consisting of thirty-nine (out of fifty) cards, all graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). This is a very attractive near-complete set of these colorful tobacco cards, very strong across the board, with many cards having a far superior appearance to the technically accurate SGC-assigned grades (as is often the case with nineteenth-century tobacco cards). In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the American Tobacco Cards Price Guide checklist. The SGC grades are as follows: One EX/MT+ 82: #30. One EX/NM 80: #34. Three EX+ 70: #10, 16, and 36. Eight EX 60: #5, 8, 24, 19, 27, 33, 39, and 41. Four VG/EX+ 55: #3, 18, 42, and 50. Two VG/EX 50: #32 and 38. Two VG+ 45: #17 and 26. Five VG 40: #2, 6, 23, 22, and 37. Eight GOOD 30: #1, 9, 10, 25, 29, 44, 46, and 48. Three FAIR 20: #28, 35, and 45. Two POOR 10: #21 and 40. Complete sets of this issue are not often available at auction, and this near-complete set presents an outstanding opportunity to acquire a superb foundation for the assembly of a complete set of this very attractive nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card set. Total: 39 cards.  Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $480
