1880s to 1930s Tobacco Package Collection with Original British Cigarette-Pack Dispenser

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,700

This collection is comprised of a number of tobacco items, both British and American, dating from the 1880s to the 1930s. Included here are a British coin-operated cigarette-package dispenser, various British and American cigarette packs, American cigarette tins, and a number of miscellaneous tobacco-related items. Please Note: Nearly all of the items in this collection can be viewed on our website. 1) Circa 1920s/1930s Fairview Cigarette Cabinet. The cabinet, made in Britain, is the most unusual piece in the collection and one that we have never seen before. The wooden cabinet has two separate coin slots on the top and two corresponding handled drawers on the front which are meant to dispense packages of cigarettes with the insertion of a coin. A label on the reverse reads "Fairview Cigarette Cabinets LTD - Automatic Cigarette Machine Service." Apparently, these cabinets were loaned out by tobacconists for home use and then regularly replenished with the customer's favorite tobacco, as the label further reads "This cabinet is the property of the above Company and is loaned solely as a container for cigarettes, which are for your personal use and are not for re-sale. You will be legally responsible for the return of the cabinet within 7 days of demand and also for the contents or their full retail value. Any WILFUL [sic] damage will be charged for." The dispenser is in working order and comes complete with the original key and a few shilling coins. 8.25 x 5.5 x 12 inches. Wood and metal construction. Ex, with wear commensurate with its age and former use. 2) Thirty-One Various British Cigarette Packages. A colorful variety of packs that includes these brands: Player, Wills, Churchman, Carreras, Ogden's, Redford's, Ardath, Godfrey Phillips, and John Sinclair. All of the packs are empty. Ex-Mt. overall. 3) Twenty American Hinged Lid Cigarette Boxes. Comprised of many colorful brands, the most rare and sought after of which is Red Kamel Turkish Egyptian Cigarettes box. Four of the boxes are unopened, with all of the cigarettes present. Ex-Mt overall. 4) Fourteen American "Slide-Pack" Cigarette packages. Eleven are cardboard slide packs (two full), while three are soft slide packs (all full). Includes Hits, Cameo, Ruby, Parachute, Pin-Head. Ex overall. 5) Ten Tobacco Tins. Includes Kinney, A & G, Ogden, Player Navy Cut, ATC Murad, Salmon & Gluckstein Snake Charmer/very rare, and Hall Between Acts. Vg overall. 6) Twelve Cut-Plug Tobacco Packs/Pouches.
