1954 A Star is Born Theater Program Signed by Ronald Reagan, Nancy Davis, and Twelve Other Celebrities
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $360
Fold-over theater program, issued for the New York premier of the film A Star is Born, starring Judy Garland, signed on the interior in blue ink by fourteen celebrities, including Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis. Reagan and Davis were married in 1952, but Davis retained her stage name until her retirement from acting in 1962. Reagan, of course, later became in 1981 the 40th President of the United States, with Nancy serving as First Lady during his two terms in office. The remaining twelve signatures appearing on the program are those of Milton Berle, George Jessel, Kitty Carlisle, Maria Riva, Jinx Falkenburg, Lena Horne, Judy Holliday, Deborah Kerr, Sugar Ray Robinson, Celeste Holm, Jan Sterling, and Eddie Fisher. All of the signatures are boldly scripted and grade "9" or "10," with the exception of Milton Berle ("6"). The name of each celebrity has been lightly written in pencil adjacent to his or her signature (all appear to be vintage notations to help identify the signatures). The program (9 x 12 inches), issued for the official New York premier, held at the Paramount Theatre in New York City on October 11, 1954, displays a number of light-to-moderate creases and light toning on the interior. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Together with an unsigned copy of the program (Vg-Ex). Total: 2 programs (one signed). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $360
