1974 Muhammad Ali Signed Fight Poster - Ali/Frazier Super Fight II
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $420
Closed-circuit television poster heralding "Super Fight II," the second fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier in 1974, signed by Ali. The poster pictures a photo of both fighters going jaw to jaw in the center, while the text at the top reads "See It LIVE on Big Screen Closed Circuit TV." As noted along the base, this poster promotes the screening at the Allentown Agricultural Hall in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on January 28, 1974. Ali has inscribed the poster at the base of his image: "To [illegible] Glenn Gregg/from/Muhammad Ali/10-2-90." Both the text and signature have been scripted in black marker and grade "10." Glenn Gregg, a high-school football coach in Pennsylvania, was a frequent visitor to Ali's Deer Lake training camp. This poster was one of many Ali-related items that originated directly from Gregg's estate. In what was the second of their three epic bouts, Muhammad Ali avenged his earlier loss to Frazier in 1971 by scoring a unanimous decision. The win gave Ali the opportunity to challenge champion George Foreman later that year in the classic "Rumble in the Jungle" match. The poster (14 x 22), which is printed on cardboard stock, displays a horizontal center fold, tack holes at the corners and edges, slight border tears, and a few light pencil notations in the upper left border. In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $420
