1972 Topps Football Near-Complete Unopened Wax Box - First Series (18/24 Packs)
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $2,400
Collection of eighteen original unopened wax packs of 1972 Topps football accompanied by the original ten-cent display box. Each pack contains ten cards, for a total of 180 cards. This is a first series (#1-132) box, which includes Joe Namath, Gale Sayers, and John Riggins, as well as numerous other stars and Hall of Famers. Hall of Famer Bob Hayes is visible on the reverse of one pack, while League Leaders cards featuring Hall of Famers Len Dawson and Jan Stenerud are visible on the reverse of two other packs. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, there is, of course, the very real possibility that within this box are Gem Mint cards of these stars, as well as many other top players of the day. The wax packs are all in Nr/Mt or better condition, appearing literally untouched for the past forty-three years, with the exception of one pack, which shows damage to the pack and interior cards from where two holes were made into the bottom of the display box directly underneath the pack. The store display box has typical shelf and storage wear in addition to the small area of damage on the bottom panel. We had the box and eighteen packs reviewed by Steve Hart of Baseball Card Exchange, the foremost expert on unopened material, who verified verbally that they were all original and untampered. An outstanding opportunity to acquire a near-complete box from this very popular issue. Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,400
