1965 New York Jets Program from Joe Namath's First Game
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $420
On September 18, 1965, in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Shea Stadium, future Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath made his professional debut as a member of the New York Jets. Namath entered the game in relief of starting quarterback Mike Taliafarro and threw for 121 yards and 1 touchdown in the club's 14-10 loss. Namath kept the starting job for the remainder of the season and the rest, as they say, is history. Three years later "Broadway Joe" shocked the world with his guaranteed victory over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, giving the Jets their first and only World Championship in franchise history. Offered here is a rare program from Joe Willie's pro debut on September 18, 1965. Namath is pictured three times in the program, including two game-action scenes taken during the preseason. The seventy-page program (8.5 x 11 inches) displays light wear and remains in Excellent condition. This is both a rare (we have never handled another example) and desirable program commemorating the start of one of the greatest careers in NFL history. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $420
