Pair of Scarce 1930s Leather Football Helmets
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $540
This pair of vintage 1930s leather football helmets is comprised of the following rarities: 1) Circa 1930s George A. Reach "Winged" Design Helmet. The helmet is constructed of black leather and features the attractive "wing" design in the front made famous by the University of Michigan football team. Complete with its original chin strap. A small number "7" (denoting the size) is stamped on the reverse exterior of the helmet. In Excellent to Mint condition, displaying light wear consistent with former use. 2) Circa 1930s/1940s Nokona Leather Football Helmet. This helmet is distinguished by its unusual "criss-cross" or "tic-tac-toe" design along the top. This is an exceedingly rare-style helmet and the first example we have ever offered. Constructed of brown leather, with black-leather interior pads, the helmet displays the Nokona brand name and model number ("325") stamped on the front. Complete with its original chin strap. The number "38" is stenciled on an interior ear flap and is also handwritten in black marker on the interior top piece. The helmet shows normal wear consistent with its age and former use and is in Excellent condition overall. This is an outstanding example of this seldom-seen football helmet dating from the game's formative years. Total: 2 helmets. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $540
