1911 T205 Gold Border Irvin Wilhelm - "Suffe ed in 18th Line" Variation

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $960

Graded EX 60 by SGC. Wilhelm is one of the particularly rare cards in the T205 Gold Border set. Few realize that there are actually two variations to this card, relating to the text on the reverse (the variations are checklisted in The Standard Catalog as 202a and 202b). Presented here is the more common variation with “suffe ed” in the 18th line of the bio. This example has bold color, flawless registration, and a strong image. The delicate gold border is free of chipping, with only light wear at the tips of the corners (a bit more to the bottom two). Virtually perfect centering. The Piedmont reverse is clean and boldly printed. This is an extremely strong example of this key variation and a worthy addition to any T205 Gold Border master set.  Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $960
