Circa 1950s Philadelphia Phillies Warm-Up Jacket

Philadelphia Phillies warm-up jacket most likely dating from the 1950s. The varsity-style jacket features a wool body and leather sleeves with cloth cuffs. A white "P," appliquéd in white felt, adorns the left breast. Both a "Wilson" label and an adjacent "44" size tag appear in the collar. The uniform number "16" is chain-stitched in white upon a red strip tag located on the interior left tail. According to Baseball By The Numbers by Mark Stang and Linda Harkness (The Scarecrow Press, Lanham, Md., 1997) the number "16" was worn by the following Phillies players between the years 1950 and 1959: Ken Johnson and Johnny Blatnick in 1950, Buddy Hicks and Lou Possehl in 1951, Mel Clark only from 1952 to 1955, Johnny Blatnick and Frankie Baumholtz in 1956, Frankie Baumholtz in 1957), Chico Fernandez in 1958, and John Easton in 1959. The jacket displays wear commensurate with its age and former use, including light soiling and fading to the white-leather sleeves, and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200.
