1947 Brooklyn Dodgers Team-Composite "Champions" Pin with Jackie Robinson!
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,800
This extremely rare large-format composite pinback (3.5 inches in diameter), which commemorates the Brooklyn Dodgers' pennant-winning season of 1947, features portrait images of twenty-two team members, including Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, Gil Hodges, and manager Burt Shotton. The lettering along the perimeter reads "Brooklyn Dodgers Champions," while the year, "1947," is prominently displayed in the center. This is one of the rarest and most desirable pinbacks of its era. Not only is it the first example we have offered, but we can only recall having seen one other example at auction during the past ten years. This pin was issued during the 1947 World Series at which time a similar-style Yankees team-composite pin was also produced, which is equally rare. In addition to being extremely elusive, the offered pin also commemorates Jackie Robinson's historic first season in major league baseball, making it one of the most significant and desirable Brooklyn Dodgers pins in the collecting world. The pin, which features a closed back, is in outstanding Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $4,800
