Bullpen Home Plate from the Last Game Ever Played at the Old Yankee Stadium in 2008 - Steiner LOA

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,400

On September 21, 2008, the New York Yankees played their final game in the old Yankee Stadium, which had been home to the club since 1923. Offered here is a significant artifact removed from the stadium following that historic finale: one of the home plates from the visiting club's bullpen. This is one of two plates featured in the visiting bullpen that game, and one of only five home plates in use at Yankee Stadium for the final game. This piece originates from Steiner Sports and is accompanied by both an LOA and a matching hologram label (affixed to the plate) from the company attesting to its "final game" provenance. A separate hologram label from MLB (162092 LH) is also affixed to the plate. (Please Note: the MLB hologram is badly faded, but the number can still be partially discerned; a photo also accompanies the plate showing the label as it was when originally purchased.) This is a remarkable piece of New York Yankees history commemorating the final game at Yankee Stadium and one of the few significant game-used items we have seen from that day. The plate displays wear commensurate with its former use, including heavy soiling.   Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,400
