Pair of Ron Lewis Original Artworks Used as Cover Illustrations for Two Different Issues of Baseball-Hobby Card Report

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $540

Pair of original Ron Lewis oil-on-canvas artworks, each of which was commissioned for use as the cover illustration for two separate issues of the Baseball-Hobby Card Report in the 1980s. The first (17.75 x 23.25 inches), which pictures a portrait image of Chicago White Sox slugger Ron Kittle rising above Comiskey Park, was used as the cover illustration for the magazine's Winter 1983 issue. The second (16.25 x 22 inches), picturing President Ronald Reagan throwing out the ceremonial first pitch of the season, was used as the cover illustration for the Spring 1984 issue. Each artwork has been signed by Lewis in the lower right corner. Ron Lewis is one of the premier sports artists of our time, best known to collectors today for his famous 500 Home Run Club and 3,000 Hit Club artworks. In addition to his baseball pieces, Lewis has also created a number of memorable works relating to the sports of football, basketball, and boxing. Original Ron Lewis paintings are highly prized by collectors in both the fields of sports and art, but this is the first time we have ever seen, let alone handled, any of his original cover artworks. The Baseball-Hobby Card Report was published by Renata Galasso and these artworks have been in the possession of a company executive since their commission. They have been consigned directly by the executive and have never before been offered for sale. Ideally, each painting is accompanied by an original copy of the magazine on which it is featured. Both paintings have been mounted onto a foam-core backing (equal in measurement to the artwork), with the Kittle painting having been matted to total dimensions of 20 x 25.75 inches. Near Mint condition overall. Total: 2 artworks plus 2 accompanying magazines.  Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $540
