1950 New York Yankees Compact
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $840
Rare New York Yankees compact issued in commemoration of the club's 1951 World Championship. This is the first such example we have seen of this decorative compact, which was obviously issued to either a player's wife or a female employee of the club. The circular compact features the Yankees top-hat logo, in raised relief, on the lid, with four tiny colored stones used, respectively, to create the red, white, and blue accents of the hat. The engraving around the perimeter of the logo reads "World Champions 1950." The compact is complete with both its original powder and sponge. The silver-colored compact (3 inches in diameter) displays minor tarnishing, as well as a few small dings along the underside. In Excellent condition overall. This is a unique and attractive Yankees souvenir dating from the club's historic 1949 to 1953 World Championship dynasty and one that is still functional, making it the perfect gift for any die-hard Yankees fan of feminine persuasion. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $840
