1941 Joe DiMaggio 44th Consecutive Game Hit-Streak Ticket Stub - Ties Keeler's Record!
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,080
On July 1, 1941, 52,832 fans packed Yankee Stadium for the opportunity to watch history in the making. The Yankees were playing a doubleheader against the Red Sox that day, but the outcome of the games was secondary. What mattered most to the fans was whether or not Joe DiMaggio would continue his epic hitting streak. The legendary "Yankee Clipper" entered the day just two games shy of tying Wee Willie Keeler's long-standing legendary record of hitting in forty-four consecutive games (set in 1897) and the tension in the stands was palpable each time he strode to the plate. DiMaggio made the fans wait until the fifth inning of the first game before collecting his first of two hits in the Yankees' 7-2 win. With a threat of rain in the air, DiMaggio got right to work in the nightcap, getting a single in his first at bat to tie Keeler for the top spot on the list. Offered here is a rare ticket stub to that July 1, 1941, doubleheader at Yankee Stadium. While we know that a number of other Yankees ticket stubs have surfaced from DiMaggio streak games, this is only the second example we have seen from his historic record-tying 44th game. The ticket stub (1.375 x 2.625 inches) displays what appears to be some very light adhesive residue on the reverse and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Accompanying the stub are newspaper articles (affixed to either side of an album page) chronicling both DiMaggio's 44th hit game and his record-setting 45th hit game. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $1,080
