1936 Spalding Die-Cut Countertop Display Sign
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,200
Rare Spalding die-cut countertop display, with easel back, dating from 1936. This is the first example of this extremely attractive Spalding retail display that we have ever seen. The design features a generic illustration of a batter along with an illustration of a Spalding official National League baseball. The text reads "Play Ball with Spalding Big League Equipment - The Spalding Official National League Ball . . .the one and only ball played by the National League - Used in every World Series." Although undated, a special notice in the lower left corner announces that "This Year Spalding Celebrates Its Sixtieth Anniversary - 1876-1936 - Sixty Years Of Achievement." The illustration of the baseball is partially die-cut and was meant to "pop out" and provide a second dimension to the sign when properly displayed on the counter. The display (12.75 x 10.25 inches), which is complete with its easel back, has some modest edge and corner wear, as well as a small abrasion on the reverse. Excellent to Mint condition overall.
