1923 Prepackaged Christmas Stocking with W515-2 Baseball Strip Cards!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $480

If any collectors have ever wondered exactly how 1920s strip cards were distributed the mystery has been finally solved: Santa Claus delivered them! Proof of that is offered here in this original unopened mesh Christmas stocking featuring a number of small toys AND a five-panel strip of 1923 W515-2 strip cards. The strip features the lettering "The Little Wonder Picture Series" along the top and is comprised of the following players: George Sisler, Jack Bentley, Jim O'Connell, Frank Frisch, and Frank Baker. The strip (7.5 x 2.5 inches) displays wear commensurate with it having been packaged with other toys for almost 100 years, including a chip in the lower left corner, edge wear, and a slight waviness (resulting from the uneven pressure of the other toys). The toys, and the stocking itself, remain in overall Excellent condition. Needless to say, this the first such example we have ever seen, let alone handled, and we know more than one collector who would probably be happier to see this under his tree this Christmas than yet another neck tie. Certainly one of the most interesting and novel card-related items we have ever seen or offered.  Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $480
